A Person's Worth

This is a practice essay for my IELTS exam. Cramming for it. I think I got a week to prepare. I'm not even sure if I'm doing this essay right. *_*

Topic: A person's worth nowadays seem to be judged according to social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as honor, kindness and trust,no longer seem important. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Nowadays, the world seems to judge a person by the price of her leather bag and her facebook friends. While I do not think that this is right, it cannot be denied that it is today's reality.

This sad reality can be seen in almost all areas of life. Back during my university years, the most popular ones in school are those rich ones with shiny cars. Professors seem to know them while the geeky ones remain unnoticed in a corner. They also tend to have more "friends"around them and their lives seem a lot cooler. When it comes to relationships, those who have more money and are more popular also get the ''best'' ones. Rich and popular boys get the hottest girls, for instance. After school, when everyone gets into the real world out of school, the bias never changes. You seldom get promoted for being honorable and kind. This is almost always the case here in the Philippines.Promotion is linked with popularity and whom you know at the top.

When you look at a person and you see the price of their cellphones or how popular they are, I don't think you are really seeing who they are. You see what they are but you are blind as to who they are as a person. They have shiny cars but are they even good persons? They seem to have a lot of friends around them but are they a  friend to these people? Relationship-wise, even though these rich people seem to get the best-looking ones, is the relationship itself genuine? Because people tend to value the finer things in life, they overlook the things that should really matter when choosing a partner in life.

Today's world puts more worth on a diamond ring than that of a hand-written card, the same way it favors the rich more than an honest man. It is a sad reality, however, I believe that looking at these things alone will not lead to happiness and good relations. Knowing this, even though it is hard to ignore that shiny necklace around a person's neck, I try my best to never judge a book by its price and cover.

This is the precise weblog for anybody who needs to seek out out about this topic. You notice so much its almost arduous to argue with you. You positively put a brand new spin on a subject that's been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply nice!
